Pleasure Principles – Five ways to feel good in your own skin.

Pleasure Principles – Five ways to feel good in your own skin, by Robyn Shanks.

At today’s lightning pace it’s hard enough finding time to wash our hair let alone nurture ourselves. On top of that advertising, TV shows and movies showcasing the so-called ‘perfect woman’ plague our self perception. Being the perfect mother, wife, employee and friend – while looking fresh and rested no less – just isn’t reality. Self esteem and sense of worth suffer, leaving some women feeling like they’ll never measure up. Here, five quick things you can do to regain your confidence and start loving the skin you’re in.

Walk it out
“Exercising adds to our energy levels,” says Jennifer Schramm, a Toronto-based life coach and self-esteem expert, “it helps connect us to our bodies, minds and spirit.” Remember how great you feel after a crisp fall walk or running around with your kids and compare that to how you feel after staying up too late watching TV or eating poorly.

Peter Fink, a registered hypnotherapist specializing in personal empowerment, says that positive reinforcements (ie, walking) strengthen our everyday habits as opposed to negative options (watching TV instead of sleeping) which are often counterproductive for the mind and body.

Flatter yourself

It’s always easier to remember the negative things people say about you than the positives, explains Schramm. She recommends clients keep a compliment journal and write down all the positive things people say, “Most are surprised at what they find and a shift in perception occurs,” she says. Positive messages and thoughts initiate lasting change, Fink explains. We are constantly programming our minds using suggestion even though we’re often not aware of it. Reiterating the positive feedback from a work meeting or review for example will encourage more confidence versus only focusing on the negatives that may have been raised.

Analyze this
Comparing your life to someone else’s is a dead end. “Start focusing on what is right about you and all the amazing things about yourself,” says Schramm, comparing our unique life to a coworker’s or friend’s keeps us stuck in an impossible place. Instead, she suggests engaging that energy in your own life ensuring the ideals you’re measuring your life against are your own, and no one else’s. Find out what your perfect life is and strive for that.

Plug in
It’s increasingly difficult to find time for you, but the importance is paramount. Whether it’s trying hot yoga for the first time, or finally joining that running clinic, spending just a few hours a week on yourself will help, as Schramm puts it, “Look at your body as a sacred vehicle.” Taking risks and stepping outside your comfort zone will help you reconnect.

Fink tells clients looking for a positive change to use internal and external encouragements as a way to motivate themselves. Working to get a bonus at work, he explains, is a goal you can set as a positive motivator. Promise yourself you’ll increase sales, run a 5km or swim 20 laps and do it for you.

See something different

If you shudder at photos, pick out flaws or worry about your weight you’re not alone, but that doesn’t make it healthy. “Instead of looking at your body as parts to be perfected start looking at all the amazing things your body allows you to do,” says Schramm, like  hugging, walking and laughing. Something as little as focusing on one thing you like, like your ears, plants a seed that will slowly help your esteem grow. She encourages patients to consider saying to a small child what they say to themselves. If you wouldn’t say it to a child why say it to yourself? There’s always a choice in how you think about yourself she explains, “You choose – which feels better?”

The Power of Suggestion Management

The Power of Suggestion Management, by Peter Fink

The power of the subconscious mind is endless. Once it has bought into a concept, idea or feeling, it will do anything possible to achieve the desired goal or outcome.

In clinical hypnotism, we use suggestion management to establish the desired goal subconsciously to initiate positive, lasting change. We understand that everything starts with a thought. For example, the person who came up with creating a water glass sat down and thought about the need for it. A thought, an idea or suggestion was born. Suggestions are at the beginning of the chain that directs our daily lives. The suggestion turns into a belief which creates a feeling. The feeling becomes an attitude with forms a behavior. The behavior determines if we are successful or not. A young girl who has been told over and over again that she is stupid will most likely start to believe that she does not have the intelligence to succeed in anything. A feeling of insecurity and low confidence might arise and create a non caring attitude which leads into a behavior of resignation and lack of confidence. Eventually, the young woman tends to give up before even starting a project.

Obviously, we can use positive suggestions to install healthy beliefs, create good feelings, motivated attitudes and successful behaviors. We are constantly surrounded by suggestions on TV, in the media and in commercials. Even though we are not aware of it we constantly program ourselves using suggestions.

In addition, our behavior is controlled either positively or negatively by reinforcement and encouragement. Reinforcements are any actions that will strengthen a habit. Sometimes they are counterproductive without us being aware of them. Watching TV late at night but not getting enough sleep on a regular basis is a good example. Encouragements can be internal or external and are used as a motivational tool to manipulate our behaviors. Setting tangible goals or working hard to get a bonus is an example.

We can use positive suggestions, reinforcements and encouragement to change our beliefs, self confidence and basically our lives. To be effective and productive, positive action suggestions need to be:

We can use positive suggestions, reinforcements and encouragement to change our beliefs, self confidence and basically our lives. To be effective and productive, positive action suggestions need to be:

  • Positive in tone to focus on a positive, healthy outcome. Any negative self talk only leads to failure.
  • Simple because our subconscious understands simple language better.
  • Believable makes it easier for us to accept it and buy into the concept.
  • Measurable allows us to benchmark our success and to set tangible goals.
  • In present tense makes us focus on the moment without procrastinating. If we keep saying tomorrow, tomorrow will never come.
  • Rewarding because we are more motivated with a reward in sight.

Once we focus on positive suggestions, we start to override negative thoughts and feelings. The focused attention allows us to take responsibility without comparing ourselves to others. We take control of our own life and of the direction we want it to take.

We need to take some time out of our busy schedule to pay ourselves the respect that we deserve. Take a pen and note pad and write down the action suggestions that you want to focus on. Find a quiet space in your home or office, take a few deep breaths and start to relax every muscle in your body. Visualize the desired outcome of your goal and repeat the suggestions over and over again. It is the feeling of relaxation and the repetition that bring it into the subconscious mind and therefore “home”.

It is important to remember that we direct our lives by the choices we make. We can make good and healthy choices or not. If we find ourselves falling into negative self talk, comparing ourselves to others or treating our body, mind and soul with disrespect, we have the power to change it. We are empowered by nature and have the right of free will. Now, let’s use it wisely.

Nothing but the Truth about Clinical Hypnotism

Nothing but the Truth about Clinical Hypnotism, by Peter Fink

Most clients who come to see me for the first time ask me if they will cluck like a chicken after they are done. I respond “only if you want to”.

It is surprising how little people know about Clinical Hypnotism and what it can do for almost everybody. Hollywood with its stories about shady men making weak women do what they want them to, or hypnotized subjects on stage behaving like they have lost their minds have tainted the image of this powerful, effective and most natural science.

The truth is that we use a state of trance every day to survive the busy world around us. When driving along a highway, or watching an interesting movie or when concentrating on a good game of golf. Our ability to tune out the outside world, put ourselves into the zone or to focus our attention on one specific task at hand is nothing else but a light state of hypnosis. My preferred definition of hypnosis is “focussed attention to bypass the conscious mind and access the subconscious mind.” Focussed attention in my sessions is the willingness to listen to my voice and follow along.

It feels like sitting in the chair in my office and listening to a long story. My clients are surprised to find out that they are fully aware of everything happening around them, that they hear the other people in the reception area or the fire trucks go by. They realize that they do not disappear or become unconscious as they might have expected. Au contraire, I say. They are more aware and alert then they have been in a long time.

We start with a long conversation around the issue that brought them into my office. We spend a lot of time talking about the history of the problem as well as its positive and negative effects. I need to know everything there is to know about the person sitting in front of me to be able use the right techniques and language patterns to create the best results. The reason for all my questioning is that our subconscious mind only accepts those suggestions that make sense to us or correspond with our own moral standards and personal values. Needless to say that we cannot be asked to do or say anything in hypnosis that we would not normally do or say.

I explain that our mind works like a beautiful, big and powerful iceberg. Above the surface, we have access to the conscious part of our mind which controls our analytical, judgemental and critical thinking, our willpower and short term memory. But below the surface lays the biggest part of our mind. More than 80% of who we are is subconsciously controlled. Our habits, fears, emotions, our automatic body functions like heart beat, breathing, walking, talking and everything else we automatically do. Our long term memories and creative parts are subconsciously stored. I tell my client that they have the natural ability to tap into that subconscious part below the surface to create the positive changes they are looking for. Basically, they do all the work and I show them how. They are the driver of the vehicle; I am nothing but the tour guide.

We do a few exercises and I try to make sure that the person in front of me feels as comfortable as possible in my office, with the process and with me. Fear and misconception are the biggest enemy of what is about to happen. In fact, someone who does not want to be hypnotized cannot be. It is that easy. On the other hand, almost everybody who wants to be induced can be.

We begin with an induction that allows my client to relax their body and mind. It is that relaxation that allows him or her to open up the subconscious awareness, to drift and float into him or herself.

What follows are specific techniques that are catered to the individual and the issue at hand. The hypnotic part of the session takes about 40 minutes which feel like five to ten minutes to most people. My clients come back into the room feeling refreshed, energized and excited about their new goals. Most people experience a tingling sensation or numbness in the body, a lightness that is described as amazing or positively surprising. Nobody in my office has ever disliked the experience of the hypnotic trance.

Mind you, everybody is different and nothing works the same for all. Some people come in for one session and are happy with the results; some people need to see me for multiple sessions. It all depends on the subconscious willingness and ability to allow change. Hypnotism can work miracles, but needs time and practise to do so.

In short, Clinical Hypnotism is a powerful, effective and safe method that allows us to access our subconscious mind. And keep in mind that anyone who wants to be hypnotized can be hypnotized. We use the state of hypnosis to create healthy changes (look, feel and live better), release unwanted habits (smoking, eating, nail biting, etc.), eliminate limiting beliefs (I am stupid, I am ugly, nobody likes me, etc.), negative emotions (anger, sadness, guilt, etc.) and let go of overall stress and tension. In fact, it is much easier than you think.

Hypnotism is a procedure which causes changes in sensations, perceptions, thoughts, feelings, behaviours and physical pain.

If everybody used Hypnotism in one way or the other, the world would be a better and much happier place.

Magnetic Hypnosis – a new way to use ancient healing powers

Magnetic Hypnosis – a new way to use ancient healing powers, by Peter Fink, BCH, PhD.

Hypnosis has been my passion for many years, and I have witnessed small wonders happen with its applications. It is a simple, but powerful tool. Most people know about the power of the mind when it comes to smoking cessations, weight loss and maybe entertaining stage shows, but few think of using Hypnosis to release emotions like sadness, anger and fear that are deeply rooted not only within our mind but also within our body’s cell structure.

The idea of Magnetic Hypnosis came to life when a friend of mine, Meconnen Desta, an independent wellness consultant, introduced the Nikken MagBoy to me. I was fascinated by this new healing magnet and immediately wondered how I could use it in my practise as a clinical hypnotist. The first questions that came to mind were, who was Nikken and how safe was it to use magnetic energy?

Nikken, an international company, was founded in 1975 in Japan and has combined ancient wisdom with advanced wellness technology. Nikken has done a tremendous amount of research to produce powerful magnets that people use for healing. It has a variety of magnetic products, including some of the most advanced magnetic devices available. In addition, Nikken is known for its unique concept of the Wellness Home that addresses all areas of wellness.  It is composed of three categories that affect humans in every way which are: Performance and Rejuvenation, Environment and Lifestyle. It also incorporates three technologies: magnets, far-infrared and negative ions. In the Performance and Rejuvenation category, Nikken has a well advanced sleep system that incorporates all this three technologies and more. Modern-day living concerns of air and water quality are addressed in the category of Environment. Whereas Lifestyle is where we take care of ourselves, nourish ourselves and stay fit.

I wondered how safe magnetic energy really was. The Integrative Health Forum published an article called ”Magnetic Energy, How Safe Is It?”  by Nu-Magnetics, Inc, 2009, on www.pep4life.com. It states that

“Today, a growing concern is emerging which links cancer to electromagnetic fields, more commonly known as EMF. This concern is supported by increasing clinical evidence that certain EMF radiation has accelerated cancer growth in laboratory animals and statistical studies showing an increased incidence of cancer among humans in areas exposed to higher than average amounts of EMF, especially the type coming from electric power lines.’ Lately, the major TV news networks have been reporting about this alarming connection between EMF and cancer. In light of the startling new evidence, many people understandably are asking, How safe are the magnetic fields used in magnetic therapy? To answer that question, a distinction first needs to be made between magnetic fields and electromagnetic fields. As the name implies, electromagnetic fields contain a magnetic field and an electric field. One cannot exist without the other in EMF radiation. A purely magnetic field, on the other hand, is just that, purely magnetic. There is no electric field present at all. That’s because the magnetic field, in this case, is not being produced by electricity as with EMF, but by the alignment of atoms that have their electrons all spinning in the same direction. A prime example of pure magnetism is a permanent magnet. Further, EMFs are traveling waves of energy. All traveling waves of energy are created by fields that periodically change their polarity. (+-+-+-+-+- etc.). In other words, they all have a frequency.  In contrast, pure magnetism is a static or stationary field and is entirely natural. The earth itself is basically a very large static magnet. Since time immemorial life has existed in a static magnetic field, it is reasonable to assume that it may be harmful not to have such a field. In fact, there is considerable evidence to support this assumption.”

More and more researchers are rediscovering the benefits of natural magnetism and are looking for new and innovative ways of incorporating this benign energy into people’s lives. Dr. Kyoichi Nakagawa, director of the Isuzu Hospital in Tokyo, Japan, wrote an article in the Japan Medical Journal in 1976 entitled, Magnetic Field Deficiency Syndrome and Magnetic Treatment. In it he attributes a multitude of common ailments, from backaches to insomnia, to the fact that the earth’s magnetic field has decreased over the centuries. That, coupled with modern day living conditions which decrease the field even further, contributes to a deficiency of necessary magnetism in the body. He cites several clinical studies which demonstrate how static magnets have been used successfully to treat these ailments where conventional treatments had failed. Dr. Nakagawa firmly believes that the therapeutic use of static magnetism  is a necessary tool for healthy living in the modern world. Hopefully, the future will reveal even greater breakthroughs in magnetic therapy. As society slowly emerges from years of conditioning that the only approach to good health is through drugs and surgery, let’s keep an optimistic view that greater discoveries are just on the horizon.

To make sense of the MagBoy, Meconnen sat down and explained the Emotion Code™ to me. The Emotion Code™ was created by Dr. Bradley Nelson who has been a chiropractic physician, craniopath, holistic healer and teacher for many years. Since 1998, he has been offering the special healing knowledge that he has gained through prayer, study and practice to others around the country in his seminars. He states in his book “The Emotion Code” that he uses magnets to release trapped emotions and balance the body.

About the Emotion Code™ Dr. Nelson writes,

“Do you ever feel that you are struggling under the weight of something that you can’t quite put your finger on? Perhaps your life is not turning out how you wanted it to. You may wish that certain events in your past had never occurred. You may even have an uneasy feeling that your present is somehow being held hostage by your past in some vague and indefinable way.  People often sense that they have emotional issues, but don’t know how to get past them. The feelings that seem to be in their way are often due to their trapped emotions. They are usually amazed to find out that their emotional baggage often consists of discrete energies that became trapped during emotional events they experienced in their past. They are even more amazed to see how easily these energies can be found and removed and by how different they feel when they are freed from them. In the same way that you cannot see the wind, yet you can feel its effects, trapped emotions are invisible and they can exert powerful forces upon you. Trapped emotions can affect you physically just as much as they can mentally and emotionally. It is my experience that a significant percentage of physical illnesses, emotional difficulties and self-sabotage are actually caused by these unseen energies.”

In Dr. Nelson’s experience, The MagBoy works very well for unlocking the Body Code. The two magnets are housed in a hard plastic case, and can be removed and rubbed in the hands. The MagBoy is called a pain eraser as it would usually alleviate discomfort of whatever type within about a minute.

Now, I was curious. I asked Meconnen to use the MagBoy on me. He got out some charts and did some testing to see if I was holding on to trapped emotions of the past. And even though I had done a lot of work around releasing old emotions, I was still holding on to some more. In fact, some feelings do not only exist in our mind, but are ingrained in our body.

Meconnen asked some more questions about my past and then rolled the magnets up and down my spine. About thirty minutes later, I felt different, but could not pinpoint how. The shift happened over night. I woke up the next morning and the world seemed to be brighter, clearer and more cheerful even though it was raining and grey outside. I felt lighter as if a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. It was clear to me that the magnets had actually done their job. Some remaining repressed feelings that had been stuck in my body and mind were gone.

“A simple refrigerator magnet, which you probably own, will work to release trapped emotions. Personally, I prefer the magnets manufactured by the Japanese company, Nikken, Inc., because they are specifically designed for use on the body, and are very comfortable to use. The magnets that I use to release trapped emotions are designed to roll down the back, are easy to hold, and as they spin, they produce a large magnetic field.  A lot of research has gone into their development, and I use them whenever I can. I have found numerous applications for them (for example, as pain-erasers, where a refrigerator magnet would not have the same effect), and I believe that the Nikken magnets are well worth the modest investment required…As your intention, your clarity and the level of faith and belief in your own ability increases, you will find that the use of a magnet is optional for you. After all, your own hand is a magnetic instrument, and you always have it with you! Remember, you have a magnetic field; you are a magnetic being yourself.” Dr. Bradley Nelson, “The Emotion Code,” pgs. 142, 143.

About Hypnosis we know that the Egyptians and Greeks used a form of it in their Sleep temples as early as 2000BC to relax and unwind. The word hypnosis means sleep in Greek but there is no relation between sleep and hypnosis. Both are characterized by some detachment as well as by physical and mental relaxation. Hypnosis is really the ability of a person to accept uncritically their own beliefs. It is another form of one’s ability.

Nowadays, clinical Hypnosis is used to help people stop smoking, lose weight and let go of stress and tension. It is a safe and effective tool to change habits and install a feeling of relaxation and peace. In the altered state of Hypnosis, we bypass the critical conscious mind and enter the subconscious to open the door to old memories and feelings. The trance is an altered state of mind which we automatically enter many times each day. Watching TV or driving a car is very much like a hypnotic trance. How many times have you driven from point A to point B to arrive at point B without really knowing how you got there? You put yourself in a trance by doing two things at the same time. What is it that happens in the brain to allow the conscious, analytical part of our mind to drift apart and allow the subconscious to surface? Our mind operates on different brain wave frequencies all day long moving between the conscious and subconscious state. The conscious state, called the Beta state, functions with a brain wave frequency of 14 cycles per second and higher with an average of about 22 cycles per second for most activities. If we allow our brain waves to slow down by going to sleep or by using hypnosis, we enter the Alpha state, also called the hypnotic state. All humans enter a hypnotic trance at least 10 times a day by drifting into the Alpha state, which operates with a brain wave frequency of 7 to 14 cycles per second. Rapid Eye Movement (REM) starts at 10 cycles per second and allows us to dream at night. The subconscious mind surfaces and communicates with our conscious mind, which uses its own language, the dreams. Slowing down further, the mind enters Theta. William W. Hewitt writes in his book The Truth About Hypnosis (1996) that “the Theta range of brain activity is approximately four to seven cycles per second. This is considered to be the psychic range of the mind and the area where psychic experiences occur. Delta has a frequency range of zero to four approximately cycles per second. This is the range of total unconsciousness.” In Hypnosis, we mostly use the Alpha State to create positive, healthy changes.

I wondered why I should not combine the two ancient healing modalities of Magnetism and Hypnotism? Why not use both forces to create a stronger method to work on our body and mind at the same time in one session? New Magnetic Hypnosis amalgamates the power of the mind with the power of magnetic fields to initiate fast and lasting results.

How does it work? The client is taken into Hypnosis to identify the unwanted emotions through ideomotor responses and to highlight the intention to subconsciously let go of them. While in Hypnosis, the MagBoy is used to internally restore the magnetic fields and align the cell structure to effectively release deeply rooted fears, anger and stress within a few sessions.

The change is noticeable to most clients during the first session. Some feel “a breeze moving through them” while some feel a sense of rejuvenation and relief once the session is finished. A tingling feeling and light-headedness might be detected, but the emotion is either completely gone or barely discernible. Most important is that that Magnetic Hypnosis is gentle, effective and without any side effects.

A SPIRITUAL CONSPIRACY

A SPIRITUAL CONSPIRACY

On the surface of the world right now there is war and violence and things seem dark.
But calmly and quietly, at the same time, something else is happening underground.
An inner revolution is taking place and certain individuals are being called to a higher light.
It is a silent revolution.
From the inside out. From the ground up.
This is a Global operation.
A Spiritual Conspiracy.
There are sleeper cells in every nation on the planet.
You won’t see us on the T.V.
You won’t read about us in the newspaper.
You won’t hear about us on the radio.
We don’t seek any glory.
We don’t wear any uniform
We come in all shapes and sizes, colors and styles
Most of us work anonymously
We are quietly working behind the scenes in every country and culture of the world.
Cities big and small, mountains and valleys, in farms and villages, tribes and remote islands.
You could pass by one of us on the street and not even notice.
We go undercover.
We remain behind the scenes.
It is of no concern to us who takes the final credit,
but simply that the work gets done.
Occasionally we spot each other in the street,
we give a quiet nod and continue on our way
During the day many of us pretend we have normal jobs,
but behind the false storefront at night is where the real work takes a place.
Some call us the Conscious Army.
We are slowly creating a new world with the power of our minds and hearts.
We follow, with passion and joy.
Our orders come from the Central Spiritual Intelligence
We are dropping soft, secret love bombs when no one is looking..
Poems ~ Hugs ~ Music ~ Photography ~ Movies ~ Kind words ~
Smiles ~ Meditation and prayer ~ Dance ~ Social activism ~ Websites ~ Blogs ~ Random acts of kindness…
We each express ourselves in our own unique ways with our own unique gifts and talents.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
That is the motto that fills our hearts.
We know it is the only way real transformation takes place.
We know that quietly and humbly we have the power of all the oceans combined.
Our work is slow and meticulous.
Like the formation of mountains
It is not even visible at first glance,
And yet with it entire tectonic plates shall be moved in the centuries to come.
Love is the new religion of the 21st century.
You don’t have to be a highly educated person.
Or have any exceptional knowledge to understand it.
It comes from the intelligence of the heart
Embedded in the timeless evolutionary pulse of all human beings.
Be the change you want to see in the world
Nobody else can do it for you
We are now recruiting…
Perhaps you will join us.
Or already have.
All are welcome
The door is open
